Joe Phaahla Has Released An Official Statement To The Public.

In answers to parliamentary inquiries, Phaahla said there were 1446 beds in the assigned mental in-patients units.

He was answering inquiries from DA MP Haseena Ismail, who had requested the number from medical clinics that have mental units, the all out number of emotional wellness patients and a breakdown of medical clinics in every region.

Phaahla said the 44 medical clinics that have mental units converted into 12.3% of the general wellbeing offices.

His answers showed that KwaZulu-Natal has the most beds for psychological wellness patients at 3028, trailed by Gauteng with 2478, Western Cape 2067 and Eastern Cape 11816.

There were 1569 beds for psychological wellness patients in Limpopo, 1446 in North West, 927 in Free State, 344 in Northern Cape and 329 in Mpumalanga.
