Celebrities Sangomas are well-known in South Africa and beyond. Sangomas have recently gained notoriety due to the fact that they are revered in many cultures. However, even though being a traditional healer is an enormous honour, it is not always looked upon favourably by those who are also celebrities who practise sangoma.
A number of well-known South Africans have followed their ancestral callings and undergone ukuthwasa training (spiritual awakening). Even more so in the entertainment business.
Scoop Makhathini made headlines earlier this year when he launched a snide social media jab at well-known sangomas.. TV personality criticised celebrities who claim to be descended from their ancestors since it has become "fashionable" in the entertainment industry to claim this heritage.
1. Mlungisi Mathe.
Skeem Saam actor Mlungisi Mathe, who portrays Emkay, said in an interview with the Daily Sun that he has followed his calling to become a sangoma and is presently studying for the profession. To go along with his sangoma duties, the man disclosed that in addition to reading books and studying the Bible, he also works as a medium and spiritualist.
2. Masechaba Ndlovu.
According to media reports, Masechaba Ndlovu has embraced her ancestors' call and revealed that she is a certified sangoma. She first made this revelation in February.
Intriguingly, this isn't a whole new development, since Masechaba hinted in 2019 that she was about to embark on an ancestral journey.
3. Boity Thulo
When well-known rapper and brand influencer Boity Thulo revealed her desire to become a sangoma, many people were startled. Thulo surprised the globe in 2016 by revealing her plans to train as a sangoma, an African traditional healer.
4. Kelly Khumalo.
It was reported that in 2014, a well-known Mzansi Sangoma told Kelly Khumalo to keep her phone number hidden or else all of her future boyfriends will perish as a result of this exposure. The sangoma told her that until she accepted her duties, she would never be able to achieve peace.
Singing prodigy and media darling Kelly Khumalo has shared her sangoma tales ever since. For a brief time, Khumalo took to social media to flaunt her regalia and express her feelings about the subject of a sangoma.
