Devastation regarding the unvaccinated members of the public. Here is what happened in Tshwane

If you are one of those members of the public who does not believe in getting vaccinated, then the following update may make you change your mind. South Africa reported about the emergence of the new Covid-19 variant, and Gauteng is one of the provinces hit the hardest in the country.

Tshwane metro, which is in Gauteng is one of the places that is reported to be experiencing many positive cases. An update that was released by News24 highlighted that 87 % of people who are hospitalized in the Tshwane Hospitals are not vaccinated.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases´ Dr Wassila Jassat confirmed that surveillance had shown that the unvaccinated were being the most admitted.

He added that they had been tracking this since February and results showed that being unvaccinated exposed the unvaccinated to the pandemic.

People who choose not to get vaccinated, do so for various reasons. However, it is high time that their decision is reconsidered. These statistics are not only being availed to intimidate the unvaccinated, but they are real facts. The unvaccinated are not invisible to getting infected with Covid-19. They are the ones at a greater risk of getting infected with the pandemic.

Even though the South African government has done everything to promote the vaccination drive, turnout seems to have been low.

Another reason that may be contributing to less number of vaccinations is the non-documentation of some members of the community. There are immigrants who are not documented who may be wishing to get vaccinated, but unable to do so.

The government needs to extend the invitation to those who are not documented so as to try and encourage more vaccinations. If this is taken into consideration, it may contribute significantly towards the increase in the number of people who step forward to get vaccinated.
