Mzwanele Manyi was just venting his displeasure at the rising death toll among ANC members, claiming that it's weird that so many of them die in mysterious circumstances this afternoon. The death of Mpho Moerane, the former mayor of the City of Joburg, has been confirmed by his family. Jolidee Matongo, who perished in an accident, was succeeded by Moerane. A bizarre accident a week ago left Moerane in a Johannesburg hospital fighting for his life.
Rumors of his demise had been going about before to his passing. The ANC had to put a stop to the gossip. In support of Moerane's family, ANC members slept outside the hospital where he was battling for his life. Sadly, he was unable to attend. Now that Moerane is officially dead, the ruling party has confirmed it. The Moerane family has confirmed that the former mayor died of his injuries after a car accident last week. His loved ones were by his side when he passed away.
The number of mayors who have died in car accidents has been shockingly high. A Twitter user expressed hope that the SAPS were conducting an in-depth investigation.
Hundreds of people have sent their condolences:
@FredomRight Mpho M, former mayor of Jozi, rest in peace. Our hearts go out to his loved ones and the ANC during this difficult time.
@LumkaMabotha It's another sad day for the City of Joburg, South Africa. "What the f—- is going on?" Comrade Mpho Moerane, may you rest in peace. The world mourns the loss of Mpho Moerane.
My country is in need of God's mercy. So many lives were sacrificed in the race for mayor. Geoff Makhubo, the former mayor of Johannesburg, passed away in January of this year. Jolidee Matongo - the late mayor of Johannesburg, South Africa - Acting Mayor of JHB, Mpho Moerane, passed away today. As ANC officials, they were all present. In light of these deaths, what could be the cause? Coincidence?
