When you ask Luan Adams about his life and dreams,he gives you one answer "One of my biggest dreams is to stop seeing the doctor a lot". Over the past 12 years, he has had countless hospital visits and has undergone many surgeries and treatments to save his life.
In all started back in 2009 at the age of 21.Adams developed sinus problems. He knew something was wrong when his face started swelling up.Like a normal person, he rushed to the doctor for a sinus flush but the problem persisted.None of the medication given to him worked and so he knew something was wrong.
Adams said a dentist actually reffered him to a Specialist at Steve Biko Hospital in Pretoria, where he received devastating news.
"I went to Steve Biko and the nurse said :'You know what,I think it's cancer'" Adams said.
During his first operation,a piece of his mouth had to be removed.
He has undergone many other surgeries and other parts of his face had to be removed resulting in his face to end up looking like this.
Enough about the sad part. Van den Heever custom-made a facial prosthetic that will help him be more confident and look more presentable.
