While the president had come out during his last address and announced that the country was entering a very terrible phase in the pandemic, no one thought things could get this bad so quickly. It has only been 10 days of level 2 of the lockdown and it seems like it hasn't even worked for a single day since it was implemented.
According to the department of health, South Africa has technically entered its third wave of the virus. This is something that was confirmed by many media houses. The main reason for this is the fact that the latest cases have exceeded what the health department and the health minister had expected in such a short time.
In the past 24 hours, South Africa recorded a total of over 9000 new cases, this is something that was last recorded 5 months ago, This is really frightening numbers and it seems things are just starting for the country. Level 2 was implemented thinking cases would o down and the pandemic would be contained but things got worse. Below is the latest number of cases.
This latest revelation in pandemic statistics had captured the attention of the country's leaders. This means that urgent meetings will be hard to discuss the next step to be taken. What can be said is South Africa is looking at harder restrictions being implemented very soon. There was a warning sent a long time ago that this could happen but no one paid attention to it, now the country is in a very bad state.
What makes this matter worse is the fact more than 5000 of the case recorded in the past 24 hours have been from the Gauteng province. It can be remembered that it was the first province to enter the third wave of the virus. This could see the province getting its own restriction in the process to try and avoid the people who are already there from infecting other provinces.
What is your take on the matter? Do you think there is a way out for South Africa at the current moment?
