South Africa was forecasted to enter the fourth wave in mid-december however this happened quicker as the number of cases has increased drastically.
The increase is a result of the new variant which is highly infectious and transmittable between individuals. Even though the new variant is highly infectious it has been shown to have loved the effects than the previous delta variant.
Seeing that the country has reached the fourth level there might be multiple changes made to the current lockdown regulations. There's high potential that the country might be taken to level two or even higher in order to keep the numbers under control and to prevent the virus from spreading too quickly.
Individuals are still urged to get vaccinated in order to protect themselves from the virus.
