South Africa is still under alert level one with minimal to no restrictions. The country has been under alert level since last year and with cases very low there is no need for a higher alert level.

Tonight a total of 35,870 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, with 3,118 new cases, which represents an 8.7% positivity rate.

Sadly today, the National Department of Health (NDoH) reported 110 deaths due to a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases. At least 6 cases occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 98,978 to date.

South African schools are back to full attendance. The minister took advantage of the low cases and mortality rate to close the gap of learning losses.

Tonight the number of cases is a bit high but should not worry the citizens. Variant Omicron does not course severe symptoms. We are still far much better.
