Teenagers can now get a Vaccine jab without parents consent or knowledge

The Children's act says children from 12 years old can consent to medical treatment but for Covid-19 Vaccine, your teenager can just get a jab without your knowledge or consent.

The Department of Health announced last week that children between the ages of 12 are now eligible to receive Covid19 vaccinations from 20 October.

Pfizer Vaccine was approved by SAHPRA in September for this age group and only one dose will be given for now. Health minister Joe Phaahla said site are ready to administer vaccines.

The minister further said the decision to open up vaccinations to children follows a recommendation by Ministerial Advisory Committee which was supported by Health MECs and cabinet.

Health Minster Phaahla continued to say the Advisory committee advised to only one person dose while assessing information which suggested that in a few cases there have been short-lived cases of transient myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscles after two doses.

A second dose might be expected when further information is available about the transient myocarditis rare side effect.
