Moderna, BioNTech, Astra Zeneca and Pfizer, see how much profit they made in the first 6 months

In this age of covid 19 vaccines, one wonders how much the manufacturers of these vaccines have made up to this point. Every pharmaceutical product is expected to take millions once it reaches shelves and establish itself. With the three covid vaccines currently available, namely BioNTech, Moderna and Pfizer, profits have been unimaginable.

Profits and earnings obtained through distribution of these vaccines had been made public, with Pfizer leading the way in terms of profits in the first half of the year. Pfizer and BioNTech worked together in the pioneering of the mRNA jab, and their vaccine was the first to gain authorisation in the US an the EU.

The producers of these life preserving shots have published their earnings for everyone to see. Below are the figures of the 3 main vaccines as provided by their makers.

PFIZER

Pfizer turn out to be one of the biggest earners in this covid confusion. The US giant pharmaceutical company has earned a whopping $10.8 billion (R159 billion) in the first six months of this year. The company's covid 19 vaccine sales are expected to reach a staggering $33.5 billion for the full year 2021.

BioNTech

BioNTech's sales for the first six months of 2021 were announced on Tueday last week. This vaccine's producer has made $7.3 billion in sales. Previously, it was estimated that the vaccine will earn around $9.8 billion for 2021 sales, but the figures has since been raised to $15.9 billion. For BioNTech, the covid 19 vaccine is their only product on sale, while their US partner, Pfizer has a wide variety if products.

Moderna

Moderna became the third company to have their vaccine authorised to be used against covid. Moderna is a US startup company. Their is story isn't that different from BioNTech whose covid shot is their only merchandise. Moderna is taken in two shots, administered weeks apart. On the market, the vaccine has made $5.9 billion in the first six months of 2021. Overall sales for this year are expected to reach $20 billion.

Astra Zenneca

Britain's Astra Zeneca teamed up with US company, Johnson&Johnson to produce their own covid vaccine. Unlike the rest these companies did not use mRNA technology to make their vaccine. Astra Zeneca is one of the leading vaccines out there. It got authorisation much later than the other three. It is credited for the full opening of English economy as well as the speedy vaccination drive in Britain. In the first six months of this year, the vaccine has earned its makers $1.2 billion. A full year sales estimation is $2.5 billion. Johnson&Johnson has reportedly made $264 million.

These companies will continue making a kill on sales as more deadly variants of covid are popping up, while many countries are still expecting first deliveries.
