Background

With the discovery of the new coronavirus variant, South Africa has been in a continuous panic trying to figure out what the next move will be from the president of the country and the National Coronavirus Command Council.

Due to this very same discovery of the new variant, the meeting of the NCCC with the president had to be moved forward to Saturday. The health minister however prematurely revealed what the president is likely to change in the next family meeting.

Report

According to the health minister, one of the most important things that the president might change is stopping inter-provincial travel. It is said that this is to help other provinces not increase their cases due to people coming from highly infected provinces.

As we can remember, an inter-provincial ban for the Gauteng province was implemented not so long ago in order to prevent an increase in cases. He did not explain if it's going to be for all the country's provinces or just certain provinces. It can be noted that currently, the Gauteng province is the one leading with the highest number of infections just like before.

Opinion

It is likely that once again interprofessional travelling from Gauteng might be stopped. He however did not reveal any other things that might be changed but it is suspected that the usual is going to happen. I feel as if this move has been very premature because everything is happening very fast.

On the other hand, South Africans are totally against another hard lockdown as they believe they've had enough of it. It is assumed that a big strike match might happen the next time the president announces an increase in lockdown level.
