The country must move to level 1 lockdown: Opinion

Covid-19 has made it very difficult to live our lives the way we normally do. We had to learn living under new conditions which was not easy at all.

The country is now in the process of holding elections on the 1 November and with the current new Covid-19 cases that are being reported in a single day, it looks like we might be heading to level 1 of the lockdown. We know that the leader of the EFF Julius Malema has been calling for president Cyril Ramaphosa to take the country to level 1 lockdown so that there can be free and fair elections in the country. The current lockdown restrict the movement of people which is not good for campaigning. It could be a good time to move to level 1 lockdown.

The number of Covid-19 cases that have been recorded in the last 24 hours is 578 and the total number of death recorded is 164 bringing the total death toll to 87 216. The number of recoveries stands at 2 762 812 representing a recovery rate of 95, 4%.

Vaccine administered to date is 16 999 722. We know that the gorvenment is currently trying all methods they can, to ensure that as many people are vaccinated as they believe that this is the best way to fight the virus. However there are those people who do not want to vaccinate because of certain reasons. People who do not want to vaccinate should not be discrimated. The gorvenment should allow people to make choices about their health.

The vaccine passport really won't work, because this will mean that people are being forced to vaccinate as they would be a fear of loosing their jobs amongs others. We saw how government tried to introduce incentives trying to get people to vaccinate.

We know that churches are against mandatory vaccine as this will be infringing on people's rights.
