Earlier this week thousands of South Africans on different social media platforms were expressing their outrage after it was reported that China's Sinovac Biotech will start with their Covid-19 vaccine trial on children in South Africa, it was reported that South Africa is amongst five countries that will collectively volunteer 14 000 children aged between six months and 17 years for the trial.
According to reports, out of the 14 000 volunteers for the trial, South Africa will reportedly contribute 2000 volunteers.
According to Dr Sanet Aspinall who plays a key role in the trial, the trail officially started yesterday (Friday 11 September), and the first two children who were volunteered for the trial have already received their first injections of the trial Covid-19 vaccine in Pretoria at the Sefako Makgatho University.
According to South African Medical Research Council president Glenda Gray the children vaccine trial is very important, as the vaccination of children and teenagers is a very crucial step in reducing Covid-19 cases in the country.
"Delaying the inclusion of children in the Covid vaccine trials delays our ability to contain Covid-19," - She said
