Beetroot is easily available and have been used since ancient times. It is well known for its vivid and deep red colour and flavour. Beetroots are packed with essential vitamins, minerals and plant compounds. These compounds have medicinal properties as well. Beetroot contains nearly all of the vitamins and minerals required by the body. Folate is a vitamin that aids growth, development and heart health. Beetroots are extremely rich in Folate. The manganese found in beets assist bone formation, the metabolism, the functions of the brain and more. They are also packed with copper which is needed in the production of energy and the synthesis of specific neurotransmitters. Studies have indicated that beetroot juice lowers the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Systolic refers to the pressure exerted when your heart contracts and diastolic refers to the pressure when the contraction is released. Nitrates in beets are converted into nitric oxide in the body and causes blood vessels to relax and widen. There are many more benefits to the humble beetroot. Including it in your diet is definitely beneficial. If they are not in season, beetroot powder can also be used as a supplement.
