Everyone knows that milk and lemon should not be consumed together. Milk curdles when lemon is added to it. This can cause gas and bloating in the stomach. But many such toxic food combinations are hiding in plain sight. Many of us probably plating them up every day without knowing their true nature. We are used to eating meat, fruits, and smoothies thinking that it is a balanced diet. But Ayurveda and modern hygienists will disagree with you. If you have not thought about dangerous food combinations before, here are 5 combinations to start with.
1.Milk and banana
The combination of milk and banana is heavy and it takes a long time to digest. While the food is digesting, you will experience fatigue. If you like drinking banana milk shakes, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg powder to promote digestion.
2.Fruit with your meal
Fruits are easily digested by your tummy but your meal may require more time. So, till the food is digested, fruit is also detained and it starts fermenting. Try to avoid eating fruits with your meal or immediately after your meal.
3.Carbs And Animal Protein
When you eat a carbohydrate with protein (such as meat with potatoes or bread) they counteract- protein putrefies and carbohydrate ferments. This leads to gas, bloating and flatulence. Those who have eaten this combination for years may have developed immunity, but it is better to eat complementary combinations like beans and rice which is a good combination.
4.Two High Proteins
Surf and turf, bacon and eggs- these are all popular combinations containing two high protein sources. This taxes the digestive system and takes a long time to digest. To avoid this, eat your meals in courses- keeping light proteins first and meat later and never wait more than 10 minutes between each course
5.Burger and fries
Why? A convenient meal is usually an unhealthy one to say the least. Over cooked food with high levels of fat, preservatives and other chemicals can form a charcoal-type substance. This then combines with the sugar in potato fries, creating cytokines which can cause inflammation and speed up the aging process, tread carefully by next time to get the urge for a big mac!
6.Wine and pudding
Why? Unfortunately for those with a sweet tooth, this delectable combo can wreak havoc on your insides. Alcohol messes up blood sugar levels and increases insulin production, so then the high amount of sugar in your dessert will be stored as fat and lead to unhealthy weight gain. For a better alternative try consuming wine with low-glycaemic index rated foods such as fibrous vegetables.
7.Sweets with Alcohol
Most of us are very careful and discreet about eating food combinations when alcohol is concerned, and one such combination that can do blunders is having sweets with alcohol. Alcohol tends to convert the sugar into saturated fats, which can get easily accumulated in the body. However, eating green vegetables may be a better choice.
Eating the right kind of food at the right time is what helps you attain and maintain good health.
