Impress uMamazala with this delicious Dombolo and Beef Recipe


• 1 large onion

• 2 tsp Garlic Powder

• 2 tsp Mixed Herbs Spice

• 1 tbsp cooking oil

• 4 tsp Curry Powder (Mild)

• 2 tsp Beef Stock

• 2 tbsp Brown Onion Soup Powder 

• 5ml Worcestershire Sauce

• 2 tsp vinegar

• Ready-made vetkoek dough

• Peeled potatoes, cut into cubes

• Beef stew meat

• ½ cup of boiled water

• ½ cup warm water

• Salt and pepper to taste


1. In a large pot, add oil, chopped onion, curry powder, garlic powder and mixed herbs spice. Fry until brown.

2. Add Worcestershire Sauce, beef and half a cup of boiled water. Cook until brown.

3. Once water has dried, add stock and cook stew at medium heat for 30 minutes.

4. Whilst simmering, prepare potatoes and dough.

5. Once the meat is cooked, add vinegar, potatoes and half cup warm water. Simmer for 30-45 minutes.

6. When potatoes are ready, add brown onion soup powder to thicken the sauce. 

7. Mix well, then add salt and pepper to taste.

8. Put stove on a low heat, then place ready-made dough on top of the stew. Let simmer for 35 minutes.

9. You’ll know your dumplings are ready once dough doesn’t stick to fork. 

10. Ready to serve and enjoy!
