Food safety

Several LiquiFruit drinks have been recalled, "high quantities of a harmful toxin."

More soft drink items have been pulled from South African stores this week, after the recall of several LiquiFruit drinks due to toxin concerns.

A mould toxin that is commonly seen in rotting apples has been found in a variety of popular LiquiFruit products sold by Pioneer Foods. On Thursday, the manufacturing company was compelled to issue a thorough recall for five different commodities after it was revealed that they had extremely high quantities of the mycotoxin patulin.

IN 'LIMITED' LIQUIFRUIT PRODUCTS, A DANGEROUS MOLD TOXIN WAS FOUND.

When your body has an unhealthy amount of this fungus, it can induce severe nausea and vomiting. Last night, the business issued a statement intended at assuaging consumer anxieties, stating that this course of action was merely a precaution:

"We value our customers' health and well-being above all else, so when we discovered the possibility of a food safety issue after conducting in-house standard testing and engaging with one of our local suppliers, we immediately launched an internal investigation into all of our 100 percent apple juice products."
