A lot of South Africans are unemployed and live in poverty, these South Africans make do with whatever they can afford. Other South Africans, while they don't live in poverty, live on a tight budget. So it's not surprise that people are shocked to see something as simple as sandals cost a high amount, however this pair was recently discord at Woolworths, and it got people talking.
For most small families, this is two months of groceries, and it's being sold at Woolworths. While Woolworths is know for it's expensive items, this one particular does surprise me. This, I believe, is the true reflection of the divide in South Africa. For some people this amount is essential to staying alive and feeding their families, to others it's just buys them a pair of Sandals. Here's what South Africans had today about it.
While some people said that this is the normal price for it, others said that Woolworths needs to be looted again. It's obviously a joke so don't take it seriously.
One person Jokingly responds about all the fictional powers this sandals gives you. While someone made another reference to looting.
There are of course those who knew about the quality of the product and openly praised it.
Sadly the truth of the matter is that nothing is ever really expensive, it's just not in our budget. However you should remember that when you buy expensive products you are actually paying for a name brand as well as the product. So you want necessarily get less worth out of a cheap product, you just won't get the name brand. So keep being proud of the things you have.
