Shudu wows at Miss World in gown inspired by Miss SA crown

Shudu Musida is doing the most to impress at the Miss World preliminary stages in Puerto Rico – and it’s ripping dividends. The former Miss SA has showed off her impressive wardrobe, including her Xitsonga heritage, as well as blown the judges away in her head to head interview.

Today she took to her social media account to reveal the inspiration behind the now-famous gown called Buhle. Shudu’s Designer of the World gown was designed by local designer Warrick Gautier and was inspired by Buhle, the Miss SA crown first worn by Zozibini Tunzi in 2019.

When we started discussing ideas around what I wanted my Designer of the World gown to be I knew that I wanted to incorporate one specific thing…’ Buhle’.

The Miss South Africa crown that I wore with so much pride and with an immense sense of responsibility knowing what the crown represented, not only to myself but also to so many young girls who see the crown for what it truly means.

Passion, purpose, responsibility, and service. I want this dress to represent our dreams and that they have so much value, no matter where you come from.

@warrickgautier made this vision come to life in the most beautiful way by hand beading this gown with the design found in the crown. Thank you Warrick for making this dream come true, I’m so proud to wear this garment proudly made in South Africa with so much love and dedication from you and your team of artisans.

The 70th edition of the Miss World pageant is all set to be held on 16 December at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh of Jamaica will crown her successor.

The winner of the Top Model competition was Miss Cote D'Ivore, Olivia Yace, and with the win she secured herself a spot in the Miss World 2021 semi-finals. Audrey Monkam of Cameroon and Aryam Diaz of Puerto Rico placed second and third, respectively.
