Terrible, Edmond Ngomane who was a breadwinner was killed by hippo.

VILLAGERS are still trying to come to grips with Edmond Ngomane's tragic demise.

On Sunday, May 8, the 42-year-old builder was mauled to death on the street by a hippo.

Edmond left home in Sgagule Village, outside Acornhoek, Mpumalanga, to go to his construction job when his sister, Sylvia (46), heard him call for help.

Pleasure (21), her kid, and neighbors raced out to discover his body in a pool of blood, while the hippo wandered away to a nearby dam.

My brother died in excruciating anguish. The belligerent hippo immediately ran away and immersed itself in the nearby dam when it saw humans were approaching," she claimed.

The fact that the family couldn't afford to bury him, Sylvia claimed, made the loss even more painful.

"He was the sole source of income." He looked after his two kids, five siblings, and our mother," she explained.

"The hippos are hostile," Edmond's mother, Florah Ndhlovu (64), stated. For nearly a month, they have terrorized the streets. They feed on our lawns and charge at us."

Kholofelo Nkambule, a spokesman for the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency, said the manager of Andover Nature Reserve was investigating and will contact the family.

Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a police spokesman, said an inquest would be held.
