South Africa undermines the effect of mental illness or problems much to its own detriment. People in South Africa never seek therapy when they faced with life's challenges. Many do not even believe in therapy.

Depression is the root cause of suicides in the country but many are hardly ever diagnosed. Instead of seeking help many people would act out in ways that shocks people and later kill themselves.

The late Patrick Shai went on a rant insulting Casper Nyovest, even including his mother. The nation was shocked at the verbal attack that came unprovoked. But we all thought it was just an old man blowing off some steam.

The nation learned with shock that the beloved actor from the nineties has died, allegedly by suicide. How can we as nation have missed the signs. Are we really so self-absorbed that we fo not take time to pay attention to our fellow man.

Suicide is fast becoming the number one killer in South Africa. We need more therapists to help us deal with our problems better.
