When you know that your project attracts a number of viewers, the best thing that you can do is to use it to make people aware about the crises that the country faces on a daily basis.

The show also remains one of the most criticized Telenovelas when it comes to storyline. However, I still believe that Uzalo must be given credit for raising awareness against some of the issues that we are facing. When they returned from the lockdown late last year, they kept on emphasising the importance of wearing masks and keeping a safe distance as per the Covid-19 prevention measures.
There was also a time whereby Fikile who was portrayed by Nelisa Mchunu and her then boyfriend, Sibusiso who is portrayed by Simphiwe Majozi found themselves being targeted by the community members for drawing them into an illegal and fake money making scheme.
Lately we have been seeing how Nosipho who is portrayed by Nompilo Mapumulo and her boyfriend who is portrayed by Nkanyiso Makhanya keep engaging on arguments which are turning into physical fights. The October teasers of the show are showing that this couple will continue fighting and making up. What is toxic about it is that Njeza is not happy about Nosipho's success and he does not seem to enjoy being in a relationship more than he loves laying his hands on her.
I have read that Njeza will be occasionally beating her up in October episodes and Nosipho will end up buying a gun for self protection. The community will learn about Njeza's wrong doings and it is Sibusiso who will confront him about it. There is also going to be a life threatening fight between Nosipho and Njeza. The members of the congregation will be forced to pray for the couple and Nosipho will start attending Gender Based Violence sessions. Just like everyone else, Njeza will put the blame on how he was raised for being the man that he is.

I strongly believe that people should give credit to the writers for using their tool to make people aware of this very wrong doing. The statistic are showing that there is more than 2700 women who were murdered by the Gender Based Violators since the year 2000.

Using every platform to raise awareness about this issue is what we need and Uzalo has became useful.
