Kelly Khumalo, a close friend of Somizi Mhlongo, has refused to replace Somizi for the Zimbabwe-based gig for which the media celebrity was ostracised owing to his sexuality. This comes after Zimbabwean churches and the political party Zanu-PF allegedly wrote to the president's office to prevent Somizi from attending an event as a guest chef for the reopening of a leading restaurant on November 4 this year.
Kelly was supposed to take Somizi's position during the restaurant's reopening in Harare. Mandy Mvukwe-Chimhini, the restaurant's proprietor, confirmed to TshisaLIVE that the Empini singer had been contracted for the occasion. Khothatso Tsotetsi, Kelly's manager, informed TshisaLIVE that the singer secured the same booking following his cancellation. She had no clue what had caused Somizi to be stopped when they were first approached. He went on to say that after learning about the Somizi fiasco, they distanced themselves from the event and denied the offer.
On Wednesday, Somizi posted a video on Instagram saying that, while he was disappointed that he had been rejected because of his sexuality, he would not stop advocating for the LGBTQI+ community. "This isn't the first time this has happened to me... them telling me not to go because it won't change the sexuality of those individuals... you not wanting me because I'm me. I will not stop talking about these concerns,I will not stop speaking on behalf of the voiceless and those who are unable to speak for themselves."
Please Tell us what do you think about this matter on the comment section, Do you think Kelly Khumalo is being a true friend to Somizi Mhlongo or the is any other reason that might be the reason why she does not want to accept the zimbabwe based gig, is it true friendship.
