Benni must grow up| Opinion.

It’s heartening to see that there’s still a remnant of scribes who are honest and courageous enough to call a wayward brother to order.

I am referring to the Soccer Laduma’s Editor’s piece, headlined “Call Benni to order!” (issue 1242). The call is not only brilliant but spot-on and long overdue.

Great achievements and one’s name in the Hall of Fame give no one a licence to be arrogant and look down on other human beings.

A pastor once said that those who are specially gifted and talented have a greater responsibility to be constantly vigilant against becoming proud and arrogant. Talents are bestowed on us for the glory of the creator and to be of service to our brothers and sisters.

We all have emotional problems. But we have a duty to harness our emotions and take responsibility for them. A man who is at the mercy of his emotions is not fully developed.

Being passionate can never be an excuse for being irresponsibly emotional. Some years back, Benni had an altercation with Roger de Sa (if my memory serves me well). In his outburst, he berated De Sa for not having qualifications that he, Benni, had, and even came up with the childish and sickening:

“I am richer than you”. Benni is 43 years old and he must grow up and perhaps read 1 Corinthians 13: 11:

“When I was a child, I spoke like a child; I thought like a child; I reasoned like a child. When I became a man (43 years), I put aside childish things.”
