When the Sama Nominees dropped, people could not believe that two of the biggest songs last year were not even nominated. Makhadzi's matorokisi and Master KG's Jerusalema were no where to be seen on the nominees list.
Perhaps there were not eligible. In their website, SAMA had invited artists to submit their music for consideration in the 26th edition of the SA Music Award. Music released between February 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020 was eligible. Makhadzi's Matorokisi was released on 1 November 2019. Master KG's Jerusalema was released on 29 November 2019. So the time factor falls away.
Maybe they didn't submit their work? Both artists are adamant that they did submit the work on time. Many people on Twitter are pushing the tribalism narrative. They feel like the SAMAs are systematically excluding artists from Limpopo. Maybe it's true. Mahoota and Doctor Malinga's via Orlando didnt win anything despite being the biggest anthem in 2013. So tribe is not at play here.
Black motion's Joy joy song has been nominated for two SAMAs. But the song was released September 2018. That was before the February 1, 2019 cut off date, so it wasn't supposed to be eligible. The inconsistency is troubling. SAMA officials must step forward and clear the air. The judges behind this are suspect at best. Maybe Ricky Rick was right, maybe some artists buy these awards!
Makhadzi tweeted... "Congratulations to all SAMA nominees..so said for not being recognized after what matorokisi did to AFRICANS last year..to all my fans I submitted everything is just that ndinga ndoneta tshinyama.. Your love and support matters"
Cassper Nyovest consoled Makhadzi by tweeting... "Sorry Queen!!! Keep grinding!!! Forget awards!!! The people's love is the greatest award an artist can have. When da people love you genuinely, you will have a long successful career whether you win awards or not. Some people clean up at the awards & fade away the very next year."
Master KG tweeted.... "Congratulations To all the SAMA Nominee's Big Love I Will Keep Working Hard Untill The day The Recognize Me"
