He was born in Durban on March 11, 1976. He, on the other hand, grew up in the Eastern Cape Town area.
He moved in with his mother when his parents split. In 1990, as people were celebrating Nelson Mandela's release on the streets of Ngangelizwe, Black Coffee was involved in a taxi accident that left him paralyzed and forever changed his life. "In the past years this day used to be fairly hard on me, still does to some extent, but looking back at how far I've gone since then, I can only be glad for how this day has moulded me to be the guy that I am," he said while honoring the disaster.
