Sunday World reports that the two musos had a hit ordered against them on the 8th of February as they dogged a hail of bullets. On that Monday night, two gunmen fired at the DJ's Mercedes-Benz tour bus in East Rand injuring occupants inside the bus.
The publication revealed that policemen confirmed the incident and said the suspected gunmen were driving an Audi A4. They paint the incidence as such; the car opened fire at the bus from the back and then went on to shoot at it from the front, then sped off.
Two of the artists injured during the attack are hospitalised and in ICU at the Union Hospital in Alberton. One of them has been rumoured to be their newly discovered talent from the Vaal DJ Deetoy who recently released his killer EP Petle Petle. He too, has gone MIA on social media.
Also MTV Base announced the postponement last week through a brief statement on their social media page, but some artists who are nominated and have been lobbying for votes say they only found out through City Press that the awards were postponed to a date yet to be announced.
“I just logged in now on the website and cast my vote so I don’t know about them being postponed. We have not heard anything from our record label also so that is weird,” the artist who asked not be named said on Tuesday.
The awards have nominations across 20 categories, which included artist of the year, best group, best lusophone act, best male, best female and best collaboration. Hit makers Master KG, Blaq Diamond, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Busiswa, Davido, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa are among those who are nominated.
Voting lines on the websites were closed on Thursday afternoon following a City Press inquiry and a note stating that the awards are postponed was posted.
Another artist claimed that they were only informed of the new changes on Thursday evening after he called his record label for clarity.
“They only just got back to me now. I guess we will wait for new dates from the awards. I am not sure what it means for people who have already cast votes. It is just that for now we can’t do anything about it,” the musician said.
In response to questions sent, MTV Base told City Press that they have informed artists in time.
“All MAMA nominees and performers have been notified of the postponement,” the channel said.
The channel held that the postponement was caused by Covid-19 related complications.
“After careful consideration, MTV Base is concerned that current health and safety challenges will significantly jeopardise the ability of the MAMA 2021 campaign to continue to achieve its objectives,” the statement read.
“Voting officially closed on January 31 and the voting mechanism on the MAMA website equally closed.”
