As everyone probably knows by now, Siyaya Media Network, headed by Aubrey Tau launched Moja Love way back in 2018 as the first black owned channel in South Africa. Moja Love aired on MultiChoice's DStv on channel 157.
DStv has millons of subscribers across the continent of Africa, so Moja Love had the perfect deal to showcase the lives of black people to the world.
Unfortunately, Moja Love doesn't paint black people in a positive manner, their shows are never about upliftment and positivity but rather, about constant degrading of black people.
Shows like Uyajola99 serve no purpose in our communities, other than making a morkery of black people on a public platform. People are always fighting on that show and no one is seeing anything wrong with that.
How will we be perceived as great if what other races are seeing about us involves destruction and negativity??
Now money wise, Moja Love is without no doubt asuccess story, but in terms changing the narrative of what other races hold about blacks, it's a huge failure.
The channel portrays black people as cheaters, fighters and having families that don't always support each other.
Instead Moja Love showing the positive side of black people, the channel does the exact opposite and what's even more heartbreaking, is the fact that it's owned by a black person.
During the course of time in TV shows and movies we've seen, blacks are always portrayed as thieves and robbers but never the good guys or main characters.
So when the Mr Tau got the chance to portray black excellence to the world, he continued with the negative portrayal that's been happening for years.
