"Covid19 is cruel" Mzansi mourns another celebrated personality

Dearest Rags, just the other I thought I must check in. Today I hear the news that you are gone. My heart doesn’t want to believe this. It can’t be true. You stood up for me in the toughest times. Called me to check on me when I was going through the worst. I just accept you gone. This is a heartbreaking message conveyed by eNCA Journalist, Heidi Giokos, following the death of Ragani Achary, fondly known as Rags. Rags was a Deputy News Editor at ETV but at the time of her passing she was working for SABC as a News Editor. Heidi described Rags as a fantastic journalist who was always willing to teach younger reporters. She was always willing to help. "I am terribly broken by your loss. I wish you eternal peace and I pray your family finds comfort and peace,"Heidi added.

The journalism fraternity has lost many journalists because of Covid19 and Rags is the latest to have succumbed to the virus. The award winning journalist was a Jack of all trades when it comes to media. She juggled between news reading and radio presenting.

Another journalist, Khayelihle Khumalo, has taken to Twitter to share the shocking news. "Farewell Ragani Achary. I will always cherish your empathy, compassion and warmth. You had a good aura. You truly loved your boys and whoa I'm going to miss your mutton curry. RIP queen," Khumalo said.

Robert Shivambu described Rags as tge one woman who introduced him to everything he knows about television journalism today. "Ragani Achary patiently mentored some of us at eNCA, making sure we knew all the basics. Rest In Peace Rags. I know you had a young family that you loved with your every fiber. Rest dearest Rags!"

May Rags rest in peace. What a loss to the South African Journalism Industry!
