Bonang Matheba has taken her battles to tweeter last week, she has urged youth to be “watch out" when it comes to business deals in entertainment industry after hers did not end well. Bonang announced that she ended her working relationship with Celebrity Cervices Africa (CSA) and they do not represent her in anyway.
Bonang said “Creatives and talent and business start-ups and young people entering entertainment, media and those entering business must acquire knowledge and have solid checks and balances when dealing with agencies that represent you and your brand. Get every proposal or agreement checked by lawyers. Hire your own independent lawyers and other experts — so that you do not get the agency to 'help' you with reviewing business proposals. This is critical. It was key for me to identify some issues,” She also added that it was crucial to “reduce every action and decision between yourself and the agency and business partners in writing”. On Sunday it was discovered that Bonang was talking about a failed business deal which is a sparkling wine brand, The House of BNG and it seems like she signed a contract without knowing all the fine print.
As Bonang was sharing information she said “Remember that an 'agency' enables you and your business and represents your interests. They 'do not own you' and 'you do not work for them'. Guard against their attitude or posture or intentions of superiority and disrespect and condescending stances. Act swiftly to correct that.” “Make sure that agency bosses don't want to compete with you in public spaces for appearances and also that agency does not insert themselves in your business beyond the agency agreement which is about them acting in your interest as their client. You are a brand and/or a business and you must be respected. An agency must deal with you as a business,” Bonang said people need to be able to know when to leave the agency if it’s no longer serves its purpose. She said this is also about your brand as an individual, make sure that it is not tainted. CSA said that Bonang is not telling the whole truth “We look forward to the day in court with Bonang, exposing the false and half-truths she has been spreading.” They said Bonang was not present most of the time for almost six months.
When Ntsiki Mazwai said that the House of BNG was a bad move because it is not a black excellence people said she was jealous. It seems like she was right.
