Ellen DeGeneres hints that South African actress could be in the running to win an Emmy

Megastar talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres, revealed to South African actress Thuso Mbedu that she is "a shoo-in to win an Emmy".

This happened on The Ellen Show, which is hosted by DeGeneres, and this episode aired on Friday, sending Mbedu's fans into a frenzy on social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter.

Mbedu rose to international fame for her role as Cora in Amazon Prime's limited series The Underground Railroad, where she stars as a runaway slave, who endures many painful things before she finally realizes her freedom.

While she is making waves in Hollywood, for South Africans, however, the 30-year-old actress is fondly remembered for her roles in the television series' Is'Thunzi, which got her nominated for an Emmy Award, as well as for the roles she played in soapies Scandal, Isibaya and Saints and Sinners. '

Speaking to DeGeneres, Mbedu said it hadn't fully registered to her how famous she actually is and often finds herself shocked when she sees massive billboards with her face on them.

"It's actually quite surreal. I don't think it fully registers. I don't know, and I keep telling my friends "It's meeee", then again "It's meeeee", and then again "It's meeee", Mbedu told the talk show host.

DeGeneres gifted Mbedu, who is reportedly a sneaker fan, with a pair of blinged-out sneakers to thank her for being on the show.

Mbedu hit the Twitter trends list on Saturday night, with tweeps rushing to celebrate her for her appearance on the Ellen Show, with many calling her an inspiration.

This appearance is followed by another one last month where she was interviewed by billionaire talk-show host Opray-Winfrey through her digital platform known as Oprah Daily, where they discussed Mbedu's role as Cora and all the ways she had to grow both as an actress and as a person for that role.
