A number of young black women and girls are negatively affected by colorism. One woman's dark skin, on the other hand, has driven her to the top of the modeling profession, where she now has a net worth of $4 million.
Nyakim Gatwech, a 24-year-old model, is recognized as the 'Queen of Dark' all over the world. Her parents are South Sudanese who were forced to flee to various areas as refugees owing to the country's violence. She was born in Ethiopia.
Her journey has been full of setbacks and adjustments, but she has never given up her sense of self-worth. She had to acclimate to a new way of life in Buffalo, New York, which came with its own set of challenges.
"I was okay enough with my self-esteem," she said in an interview with CBS News, "then I began being ripped up by society, and I began looking at myself."
"Should I associate with society's deemed beautiful?" Nyakim had moved to Minneapolis as a teenager and completed her high school and undergraduate degree there.
She retains her self-assurance and tenacity throughout her journey. She soon grew to appreciate the elegance of her features. She is currently a professional model with approximately 688,000 Instagram followers.
Her dark skin grabbed the attention of a lot of people on the internet, who were drawn to her photoshoots because of it. According to Celebrity How, she is now a brand ambassador for a number of companies, including Fashion Nova, and her net worth is reported to be at $4 million.
She stated, "She is a black lady, she is me, and I am her." My wonderful niece is the driving force behind all I do; she can't see anything except beauty in the mirror."
"I remind her and all black girls that they are extraordinarily lovely, brilliant, outstanding, and much more," she continues, "in a world that often tells us we aren't beautiful."
