Mama kaBafana (Lockdown) song maker is Mbali from Durban Gen (Nelisiwe Sibiya)

Nelisiwe Sibiya, a South African singer, songwriter and actor. Nelisiwe is the voice behind Mzansi Magic's drama Lockdown's theme song.

When Nelisiwe Sibiya was around 8 years of age, that is when she realised that she could sing. Her older sister would teach her the songs of music legends like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion.

While Nelisiwe was living in KwaZulu-Natal, she got sick and her mother decided to move them up to Joburg so she could get the help that she needed.

She had to repeat Grade 3 because she did go to school for two whole years because her family could not afford to send her to school.

When Nelisiwe got better she was still afraid to sing because of the misfortune thag followed her sister. One day when she was in Duduza in a primary school where she was attending, after a student had died, the school gathered to sing the samensong that was sung at her sister's funeral.

Nelisiwe Sibiya is currently portraying the character of Mbali Mthethwa on an E T.V drama called Durban Gen and it airs from Monday to Friday at 18:30.
