Culoe De Song, a deep house DJ, confessed to TshisaLive that he is now a sangoma.
The DJ kept the major news to himself since he doesn't believe in the recent trend of exposing one's training status, particularly in the early phases. The DJ is the most recent ZAleb to heed his ancestral calling, as we've seen a new influx of celebrities embarking on this quest. Following his post in which he is dressed in traditional garb and doing the traditional dance, Culoe De Song piqued the interest of his followers. The majority of his admirers in the comments section were unsurprised because his calling was clear in his songs in some way. He's one of the most well-known Deep House DJs in the country, and he's also on the road in other major cities throughout the world. But for Mzansi, his music hits home, and there's something about him that many haven't been able to pin down until now, due to his post. When a fan asked Culoe about his thought process when writing his hit songs, he hinted at having the calling. "Do you burn incense or whatever when you write a song because I always get that spiritual connection with my ancestors?" a fan said. Culoe verified it, claiming that it is a gift from him. Culoe told TshisaLive that he is pleased with his decision since it is teaching him valuable life skills. His absence from the limelight is due to the sacredness of the voyage.
His calling is not only to be a traditional healer, but also to be a musician. He says this because he's received messages from fans expressing how music has helped them overcome suicidal thoughts. “Considering that music is a part of my calling...my talent with music is a part of the journey of connecting with my ancestors. So everything about my travels and music is contained in a single gift bag. Healing is a gift.” “I've had individuals come to me and say that my music saved them from suicide and other things like that...and at the time, I was just a talent. I had no idea I possessed any unique qualities... I didn't consider music to be a means of therapy.”
He's also not in the business of fighting for the title of most famous sangoma, as has been the current vogue. “I am on a spiritual path, but it is more about all of my gifts than anything else. I have a unique tale about why I am going through what I am going through, just like everyone else has a different fingerprint.“I don't believe it's about being the most renowned sangoma or talking about spirituality because that's the current fad. It's about repairing your core...and also allowing yourself to grow and realize all of the possibilities that are inside you.”
