Legendary actor Patrick Shai dies
THE legendary South African actor Patrick Shai has died.
Kopano Shai spoke to Channel24 and confirmed that the actor and activist died by suicide on Saturday.
"It is with great sadness that the death of the veteran actor Ntate Patrick Shai is announced.
"He passed away this morning (January 22, 2022)," reads a statement released by the family.
The family asked for privacy and time to process the painful loss.
Patrick is best known for his roles in Soul City, Generations and Zero Tolerance.
He was nominated for a Safta in the category Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for his role in Skeem Saam, and again in 2018 for his performance of Jacob Moloi in 7de Laan.
Last week, Patrick got into trouble because he used inappropriate language in a video posted on social media when he challenged rapper Cassper Nyovest to a boxing match.
He issued a public apology on Tuesday to the rapper and all those affected by his remarks.
