Acclaimed South African actor Patruck Shai appears to have have passed away due to suicide. The weekly publication Sunday world posted this on their Twitter page. It is not yet known why he committed the suicide but the actor had recently come under fire after he challenged South African rapper Cassper Nyovest and even insulted his mother.
Cassper was shocked and confused by the man's attack and even started to play victim, claiming that he is used to being attacked for being a celebrity by people who want clout. He then asked that people attack him and not his loved ones since he was the famous one and not his loved ones.
Shai is known for his work on shows like Bophelo ke Semphego, Yizo Yizo 1, Skeem Saam, 7de Laan, Zone 14 and many other shows. He was staying in Soweto at the time of his death and that's where he committed suicide.
Many fans were on hand to mourn the loss of such a celebrated talent. This is what they said:
Many will wonder what caused Shai's suicide. We know that suicide is caused by depression a sometimes misunderstood illness. What were the reasons for his erratic behavior?
For him to call out a child? Was it a cry for help? Perhaps he was in debt or he missed the fame and attention he enjoyed in his heydays.
Most famous people struggle with losing relevance, particularly child stars or teen stars who no longer fit the market. People like Aaron Carter and Macaulay Culkin of home alone struggled with substance abuse after their moment in the sun ended.
Perhaps as time presents itself we will know the reasons for his suicide. For now we will content ourselves with the memories of his brilliant work. I for one will never forget his work on Yizo Yizo.
