Halala, Makhadzi gets her first Afrima award, and South Africa is overjoyed.

"It's a dream come true." I've been trying my luck for the past seven years to be a member of Afrima, and God finally answered my prayers at the perfect moment."

Makhadzi, a Limpopo native, realized a lifelong ambition on Sunday when she received her first Afrima award in Lagos, Nigeria.

At the All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) 2021, she was nominated for best soloist and couple or group in African electro for her popular song Murahu.

On Sunday night in Lagos, Makhadzi delivered a spectacular show. The Ghanama hitmaker was overjoyed when she received three nominations for major prize categories.

She stated that she had been attempting to be recognized by the Afrima awar for seven years.

Makhadzi was nominated for artiste of the year, best female artiste in Southern Africa, and best artiste, duet, or group in African electro for Murahu featuring Mr Brown.

She posted scenes from when she was performing till her identity was shouted out on Instagram. She dashed to the platform, and as she accepted the medal, an emotional Makhadzi declared she was dumbfounded.

"Good night, Africa." I'm flabbergasted, but I want to thank God for pulling me out of the slums of South Africa and sending me here to represent South Africa and my culture Tshivenda."

The Afrima, in collaboration with the AU Commission, aims to promote Africa's and the diaspora's rich musical history.

Tweeps joined in the fun, congratulating Makhadzi — "African Queen" — on her well-deserved victory. Here are some of the TLs' reactions.
