Katlego Maboe, a former television presenter, is suing four people for R4 million, saying he suffered psychological harm.
Katlego moved away from the spotlight in late 2020, following a public cheating scandal and abuse allegations leveled against him by his former partner, Monique Muller. He was fired from the Expresso Morning Show as a host, and Outsurance advertising featuring him were pulled from the airwaves.
Katlego, who was also nominated for the National Film and Video Foundation's South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) in the Best TV Presenter category in April 2021, is now asking that four people pay him R1 million each within three weeks, according to Netwerk24.
Katlego admitted to straying on his partner in an Instagram post at the time, but denied all charges of abuse. Following the startling allegations, he claimed on social media, "I had opted to deal with this situation quietly to protect and defend our child."
According to reports, the 34-year-old is suing his former partner, her brother, Sabrina Walters, the creator of Women for Change, and Dr Janet van Eeden, chairman of the judges for the NFVF's Saftas, for R1 million in damages.
Katlego will file official damage claims against them if they do not pay the R4 million, alleging loss of income, psychological harm, and damage to his character. Katlego's lawyer, Andre Johnson, acknowledged to Netwerk24 that lawyers' letters seeking money were delivered to these individuals.
Muller called her former partner’s latest actions a form of bullying. Posting several stories on Instagram, the gender-based violence activist is not pleased that Netwerk24 did not ask her for comment.
“Please help me understand how I am supposed to comment on an attorney’s letter that the attorney in question has sent to journalists [?] But forgot to send it to me too.
“The previous attorneys bullying tactics, harassment and unethical behaviour already got her in serious trouble and here we go again,” she wrote.
