Best actresses South Africa has ever produced (opinion)

Nthati Moshesh

The award-winning actress was born in Katlehong the East of Johannesburg. Nthati is the first black to graduate in a performing arts school in Technikon Natal. Her career began back in the early 2000s when she featured in 'The long run' movie. She became popular when she played the character of Morongwe Molefe on Etv Scandal. She has also acted in Saints and Sinners, Lock Down and now she is on BET's Isono.

Thuso Mbedu

The youngest and first black south African to get nominated on the Emmy Awards. Thuso has raised her country's flag high simply because she is talented. Her Character on Isithunzi allowed her to show off her craft which led her to get nominated internationally. She has won several awards locally and currently acting in Hollywood.

Moshidi Motshegwa

The legendary actress is one of the most talented and highly payed actresses in South Africa. Moshidi does not appear in a lot of shows but where she does, she always leaves a mark. One of her craziest and loved character was Naomi Fischer on Etv Rhythm city, she acted as a woman with bipolar and she would always nail the scenes where she would be in a good mood and where she would be in a bad mood. Her career started back in the 90s and some of the shows she acted in include The river, Zero Tolerance and Drum.

Masasa Mbangeni

We are all drawn to actors we love hating because there is some kind of satisfaction we get from seeing a bad guy in action. Masasa Mbangeni, one of the most talented actors in South Africa, is just that good at playing greedy and hateful characters. Her badass portrayal of Thembeka on Scandal is legendary and that is why transitioning to play Celia a formidable character in Harvest was seamless. Every role the actress plays demonstrates the type of genuine humility that rests at the heart of her work.
