Courtney Shanade Salter, better known as Ari Lennox, is a Washington, D.C.-based American R&B singer. She is the first female artist to be signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. She rose to prominence with the publication of her debut EP, Pho, on the label.
She is recognized for creating sexually explicit lyrics, and her hit song, Shea Butter, with J.Cole, helped her attain international prominence. "Touch me, take me, kiss me, love me, depress me"... the words of the song paint a picture of Ari's perfect night.
MacG encouraged her to appear on a prominent podcast in South Africa. Ari was astonished when she was asked who she was having intimate relations with, and she afterwards went on a Twitter rant to voice her anger and unhappiness with the interview. Ari described the inquiry as insulting and demeaning. She inquired as to why MacG had asked her the question, and MacG stated that he had done so because of some of her song lyrics.
People on Twitter were shook about how she reacted to the whole interview and some said that Ari does not write her music because if that was the case, she should have known that such questions are going to come up because interviews want to capture the personal life of an artist and also create content which fans are going to engage and be interested on.
Some individuals are not interested at what Ari Lennox experienced. Others said that there are many South African female artists who make good music like Boohle, Ami Faku and more, so Ari should remain in America. Ari Lennox has since deleted all her tweets. Some defended her and said that she is human and has emotions as well, being asked sexual questions can be uncomfortable.
Do yo think the situation could have been handled better?
