The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls – South Africa (OWLAG, was a project she conceived in 2000 in a discussion she had with Nelson Mandela. OWLAG opened a girls-only boarding school with grades 8 to 12 in 2007 and its inaugural class of 72 girls graduated in 2011.
