Unathi Finally Breaks Her Silence About Being Fired From The Radio Station

Unathi Nkayi, a former Kaya 959 radio personality, has spoken out about her dismissal from the station. Unathi was fired from her midday program earlier this month for "certain actions that make the relationship unacceptable going ahead," according to the station, which cited "a breach of trust between the two parties."

According to a source, the "certain occurrences" mentioned by the station were to Unathi accusing former friend and Kaya Drive anchor Sizwe Dhlomo of verbal abuse. Unathi took to social media on Friday to share a video of herself delivering a statement in response to the allegations. She said Kaya had silenced her and that she was unable to speak publicly about her termination due to contractual commitments freelancers had with the station. "I was clearly advised that I would not be able to utilize my platform to convey my version of events." The only issue I will address because it is very significant to me is the recurring subject of GBV."

She said that "GBV had nothing to do with anything." I never claimed that Sizwe perpetrated any form of gender-based violence against me." "Sizwe is aware of this. Kaya is aware of this. But when Sizwe's words lead to people believing that I made false claims against Sizwe about GBV and neither Sizwe nor Kaya do anything to address or alter the narrative, I feel obligated to stand up." For the record, Sizwe and I both presented written allegations against one other, some of which were determined to be true while others were found to be false."

She stated that she had delegated the subject to her counsel. Sizwe allegedly rushed to Twitter earlier this week to clear the air after a City Press story said that Unathi and Sizwe were embroiled in a furious altercation. According to the report, Unathi filed a formal complaint with the HR department, accusing Sizwe of verbal abuse and unprofessional behavior when he was late for his program. Sizwe stated that he had nothing to conceal and that the City Press account was basically accurate.
