Nothando Ngcobo (26) who plays a character named Hlelo on Uzalo says this role has officially introduced her to the acting industry, though she had been appearing on short Mzansi Bioskop films in 2014. She was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela Awards in 2017 for her role on a short film titled 'The Swallows Falls On', but she is getting more love from people for her role as Hlelo on Uzalo.
'I wasn't aware that this character would create so many talks, this is because Hlelo has no future, she's uncontrollable and she doesn't know what she wants in life.' Stated Nothando
'Playing a role of a character who has nothing in common to you is not an easy thing to do.'
She mentioned that she once played a character named Prudence on a show called Lingashoni but this character was nothing compared to Hlelo.
'Prudence doesn't have a dramatic life as Hlelo, she grew up in a well organised family and Hlelo was abused growing up. She even left her home and lived in the streets because her mother hated her so much. All she thinks of is that she has no future.' Continued Nothando
She revealed that her and Hlelo are two different people, the only thing they share in common is smartness. Hlelo has her own smart way of thinking. Nothando grew up wanting to become an actress but her family advised her to atleast have another qualification first. Linda Sokhulu, Tshedi Motshega, Will Smith and Halle Berry are some of the well known actors who she looked up to when she was growing up.
'After completing my matric at Cloof High in 2013, i went to study StrategicMarketing & Communication at University of Johannesburg. I then went on to study Part Time Acting course at Market Theatre in Gauteng.' Concluded Nothando
She has also worked as an event organiser at Sasol. She says she is ready to act on major films and be an MC at different events. Nothando is the second child and she is the first born child of Princess Ngcobo.
