South African television and radio presenter Bujy Bikwa, spent the weekend behind bars for his alleged assault on Boity Thulo with a bottle. This comes after the former Metro FM DJ’s bail application was postponed at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 1 October. After he allegedly assaulted rapper Boity Thulo at a hotel in Waterfall, Midrand, on Thursday evening, 30 September.
Bujy was charged with assault with the intent to cause severe bodily harm. His case will now be heard in court again on Wednesday, 6 October 2021, this is according to a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Phindi Mjonondwane. “[The case was] postponed to Wednesday. The accused is in custody and was charged with assault,” Mjonondwane said.
During the incident in question, the altercation took place at the Courtyard Hotel, when the two were out with friends. Bikwa allegedly hurled a bottle of alcohol at Thulo and cut her in the face. Boity is said to have suffered significant injuries and had to be transported to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. She later went on to open a case at Midrand Police Station, on the same night of the incident, according to police spokesman Mavela Masondo.
According to some eyewitnesses on the scene, the fight between Boity and Bujy, took place after a heated conversation about Sangomas and Ancestors. The conversation seemed to have spiraled out of control as Bujy threw a bottle of alcohol in Boity’s leading her to be hospitalized.
