Death always hurts so much. Everything changes when you lose a loved one. It is like your life has stopped, that life as we knew it is over. Grief turns our world upside down, while others' lives seem to go on unaffected.
People say they know how you feel. No, they don't. They are not you. It was your loss, your relationship. That can make grief a very lonely journey. Grief is deeply personal. Emotions surge up and hijack us at a moment's notice - and at the same time we have this deep, ache in our chest. Maybe we do not feel like ourselves at all. Questions surface. How did this happen? Why? What do I do now? These are the questions you always ask yourself when you lose a loved one.
With regard to death, Virgil Abloh, a man who was a designer for Louis Vuitton and a founder of Off-White passed away at the age of 41 after a private battle with cancer. Virgil was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of cancer in 2019.
Abloh first came to prominence as rapper, Kanye West's creative director but later made history as the first African-American to lead French luxury brand Louis Vuitton.
This man changed the fashion industry. Famously prolific, he always worked for a greater course than his own illustrious career : to open the door to art and fashion for future generations, so that they unlike himself - would grow up in a creative world with people to mirror themselves in. His achievements will not just live on. They will continue to evolve because we are only seeing the beginning of his impact on the creative industries and surrounding world.
You’ll never get over the loss of your loved one, but the painful feelings you’re experiencing will lessen as you accept the loss.
People often say that time heals all wounds. It doesn’t heal them, but it gives you the opportunity to learn from them. Either we can learn from these lessons or ignore them and be challenged again and again until we do learn them. Grief teaches us to appreciate what we have and not to take it for granted.
