South Africans were surprised and amazed at the discovery of the second most watched show on DStv which follows Mzansi Magic's Gomora.
Since last year, Gomora was leading as the most watched TV show on DStv after it surpassed The Queen. A drop of vieweship in The Queen could be a result of change from the great presenters like Rami Chuene who played the role of Gracious Mabuza.
In a twist of events, a weekly drama, Ehostela is now the second most watched show on Dstv as it follows Gomora which is leading.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela made an announcement on Twitter: eHostela dethrones The Queen. In a shocking twist of audience trend, the second season of eHostela beat the dominant telenovela to be come the second-most-watched show on DStv behind Gomora in January. The series pulled 1,76m viewers over The Queen’s 1,66m."
EHostela is a drama series shot at Kwa Mashu township in Durban which reflects on lives lived at EHostela and the lives of izinkabi (hitman). It was first aired in 2019 and received lot of reception as people enjoyed it.
However it is indeed interesting to see that a show which aires once a week has surpassed a show that aires the whole week. It is quite clear from the numbers that The Queen has lost viewers. Ferguson Films will need to work hard to claim their spot.
