IDOLS SA ratings dropped dismally after Somizi's exit

After a month since Somizi Mhlongo left Idols SA, the show has suffered a huge plunge.

It is now clear that Somizi's fans were serious when they said that they will stop watching the show when their star exited. It will be remembered that they took it to the social media pages of Idols SA and reaffirmed their support loyalty to Somgaga. They made it clear that they watched the show all because of Somgaga, they liked the idea sense of humour he brings to the show and his character that they enjoy to see.

However, Idols SA and Mnet chose to ignore all that, perhaps they thought the fans were not serious. Now it turns out they were very serious about that.

In the history of the Idols SA, for the past sixteen years, it has never happened that the show loses so much viewers in just a month.

It has been reported that Idols SA has seen a significant drop in viewer ratings after they dismissed Somizi Mhlongo. This is according to Channel24, who reported that the show went from over 1 million to just 693 000.

Idols SA lost a whopping 31.89%, to only 693 760 subscribers in August, at the highest. With this figure, Idols has dropped to the tenth most-watched show on DStv for the month.

As surprising as it may seem, this is actually the highest number of viewers for a single episode of the show in August. Other episodes of Idols shown on Mzansi Magic on Sunday evenings last month even had fewer audiences.

Idols had 693 760 for its episode aired on August 8th, just one day after it was announced that Somizi would leave his position as a judge on the series.

Somizi announced to leave his position as a judge on the series.

Because episodes aired during August were still recorded, Somizi continued to appear on the show from August 8 to August 22, but a third of the viewers suddenly lost interest and tuned out.

After the show’s first episode aired on Sunday without Somizi, on social media, his followers stated how difficult it was to watch the show without their favorite media personality.

Somizi’s position on Idols SA has been put on hold, according to a statement released by Mzansi Magic earlier this month.
