Woman with world’s longest nails shares horrifying story of how she lost them

As of 1979, Lee Redmond has not cut her fingernails.

Every day she dips them into warm olive oil, and uses bottle after bottle to keep them in top condition.

At their longest, her nails on two hands estimated a stunning 8.65m altogether – procuring her the Guinness World Record for the longest fingernails on a couple of hands (female). 

She stated: "It was only a test to myself to perceive how far they would go before they began turning in a bad way. 

"I continued setting dates and dates that I was going to cut them and I just couldn't do it. 

"It's abnormal how they become some portion of you. 

"I think my fingernails characterized me to many individuals, I was known as the fingernail woman however to me I would need to disclose to them there truly is more to me."

But when she was involved in a terrifying car crash and her nails were ripped off, grandmother Lee, from Salt Lake City in the US, had her place in the record books cut short.

When the car she was in crashed into another three vechiles, she was sitting in the passenger seat, and was thrown onto the ground.

She said: "The first thing I saw was a nail on my finger and I started crying."

She told a witness in the scenes that her nails were breaking records, and the woman walked around and collected all the pieces of nails-which Lee now holds in a plastic bag to remind her of her time in the fame book of Guinness.

She said: "It was just something I had to accept, because there was nothing I could change.

"What troubled me was, it's becoming your name. I felt a part of that had been lost.

The mishap implies that while Lee despite everything holds the record for the longest ever, she doesn't hold the present record – which has a place with Ayanna Williams.
