Actresses from South Africa who were fired from their TV acting roles because they were pregnant.

Being pregnant is a joyful experience for many woman and for some it is a source of joy, peace and fulfillment. Unfortunately, in the entertainment industry, pregnancy is often frowned upon. This is because it is assumed that pregnancy will slow down an artist. It actually sad to know that some artist have actually been fired because of this. Today we have compiled a list of South African actresses who have allegedly been fired because they were pregnant.

Manaka Ranaka.

The talented actress shocked her fans when she confessed that she was unfortunately fired because she got pregnant. This happened more than 20 years ago when she was still new in the industry. She was told at the time to get rid of the pregnancy or lose her job, the actress opted to keep her baby and lose her job. Today she is more than happy with the choice she made.

Sphelele Mzimela

She played the role of Mazaza on the hit show Uzalo, although both sphelele and Uzalo never admitted that her pregnancy was the reason she was kick out of the show, numerous reports suggest so. Before she was replaced on the show, it was reported that the production team were not happy with her because she wasn't performing as they wanted, they said she was tired often and vomiting frequently. Eventually she was shown the exit door.

Keke Mphuthi


keke Mphuthi claimed that she was fired by the Ferguson Films production because she was pregnant. She said that after it was revealed that she was pregnant, her problems started, she was kicked out of the show and she claimed to have been underpaid. She did allege that she has proof of all of this accusations.

Gabisile Tshabalala

The talented actress revealed how she got fired because of her pregnancy. She is now an advocate for this same issue, one can say her getting fired made her more stronger and braver.

Gail Mabelane

The actress revealed that she was once chosen for the role and that contracts were about to be signed when she got a call from the film producers telling her they are not sure about casting her. This happened after she revealed to them that she was pregnant. She said that she was shocked because by the time she would start shooting the film, her baby would have been five months old. However that did not stop the film producers from showing her the exist door

It is a shame that women in this day and age still goes through this form of discrimination. We appluad production teams that choose to work around a women pregnancies and the bravery of this women to speak up.
