Apart from her high-class dance moves and a hit that has everyone dancing, most people don’t know, or can’t tell who Kamo Mphela is. There is one thing you can’t dispute about the beauty though: she keeps on slaying, over and over again. So who exactly is Kamo and why should you know her? Keep on reading below!
How old is she?
Kamogelo “Kamo” Mphela is actually 21 years old! She was born on 29 November 1999
Where is she from?
Although Kamo currently resides in the South of Joburg, she was born in Durban but raised in Soweto and has revealed that she will forever remain a Soweto girl at heart.
She has no formal training in dancing
“it came naturally, I’ve never trained to be a dancer” says the Amapiano queen. Her father, Mr Onitiaf Mphela worked at YFM in the production department of the radio station, he is the one who introduced her to the industry. “he’d take me to his work gigs and put me on stage to perform”
She hasn’t made that much money yet
Although the dancer became famous after she posted a video promoting the song “Jobe”, Kamo has revealed that she never made any money from it, even after featuring on it vocally. “People trying to get you to sign contracts so that they can hold you down. I went through a couple of songs where I didn't get any money from them. Jobe is one of those. Jr wanted to sign me for three years. There was a bit of drama when I didn't want to sign the contract. That's why I'm not even on the Jobe music video." But still, its important to note that booking her might cost you a whopping R25 000!
She hasn’t done the deed!
The dancer has also revealed that she is a virgin and is currently not in a relationship as she is focusing on the success of her career, before it fades away. "I don't have a specific type. I like
dangerous guys." Kamo also revealed that the most painful thing that she has ever gone through was when she failed grade 11 back in high school. She eventually got over it though and managed to complete her matric, then went to enroll at Boston Media House, before she became and internet and Amapiano sensation!
She might be a great dancer, but she is not perfect.
In March 2020, she ran off the stage at the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards, after experiencing a hectic wardrobe malfunction. “I felt my pants rip the first time but decided to continue thinking it’s not bad , when I heard them rip again I knew I had to get off stage. At that time all I could think of, was in order to survive this I needed to get off stage in respect of the audience at home and my industry peers.” Said Mphela.
Then, in December 2020 whilst just getting on stage to perform her hit single SBWL with Busiswa, Mphela bumped into one of her dancers and fell!
